In the process of cleaning, organizing, decluttering, remodeling, etc. Grant and I found this lovely piece of remembrance. And before it gets destroyed, I had to document how crazy I was.
I am a shy person, but when Grant and I met, I was even more so--like 500% more so. On our first date I knew that something big was going to happen with Grant. He was different. And I reasoned away that marriage was the "something big." Marriage--that was a CRAZY thought, so I figured that it must have meant something different. And as the days went on, I couldn't imagine what it could be, until I realized pretty quickly that I was head over heals in love and that he was the man I was going to marry. Now I had a little help from some friends during this time. One was my partner in crime, Maren. She was NOT shy and so she helped nudge me along out of my shell. And this is what she made me do after only knowing Grant for about 2 weeks:

(Dear "Mr. Goodbar" "Look" "U-No" I've had "Extra" "Mounds" of fun with you lately. Be"Twixt" you and me, you're a real "Dream" boat. My heart does "Flipz" of "Joy" when you're around. I don't want to sound like a "Goo-Goo," but you're such a "Big Hunk." In all honesty, I think you're a "100 Grand!" Love, Niki)
Looking back on it, I cannot believe I said such things. "My heart does flipz of joy when you are around"!!! What?? That is SO forward. And I was so ignorant at the time. In my mind I was just telling the truth, so who cared what he thought--or what implications it had.
We took it over to his house when we were done (again Maren made me). He was working out of town, so I knew he wouldn't be there. And that night I had one of my most embarrassing moments of my life. Granted, maybe it doesn't seem too embarrassing to others, but I was so shy--I just wanted to crawl into a hole.
Maren and I took the candygram to his house and his mom decided that it would be a grand time to call Grant and check on him. And how convenient, how about I talk to him as well. So Grant and I talked on the phone for a few minutes and then I gave the phone back to his mom. I went out of the little office that I was talking to him in, and went to the kitchen to "join" the conversation between Maren and Grant's dad. (I just sat and listened, not believing that I was doing what I was doing.) Grant's mom came out of the office after hanging up with Grant and she said, "He told me tell you that he loves you." Grant's dad set down whatever he had in his hand and got this twinkle in his eye and a smile that went from ear to ear--he knew that the opportunity was right. Grant's mom finally added, "Gary." And then he said to me something to the effect of "Phew. I was starting to wonder what you guys talked about in there. You only talked for a few minutes." And I was ready to leave. So in ONE night, I told the man that I knew I was going to marry (even though I wasn't sure he felt the same way in any shape or form) that I was head over heals for him, and his dad teased me about Grant saying that he loved me. Mortified. It was a miracle that I ever showed my face again to this family! On the way home, Maren proceeded to plan my whole wedding cake with flavors and such. She ended up making our wedding cake about 9 months later. What an amazing friend!!
And our story began. Almost 12 years ago I met the most perfect man and began to fall in love. And I fall more in love everyday. What an amazing life I have with him.
